Letter read today in church from our Stake President concerning the Stay Family tragedy... “Dear Brothers & Sisters of the Houston Texas North Stake, “This past week we have been shocked and deeply saddened with the senseless taking of the lives of Stephen and Katie Stay and four of their precious children, Bryan, Emily, Rebecca and Zachary. We have marveled at the protection given to their daughter Cassidy and her courage to act to save the lives of other members of her extended family. We have been reminded of how fragile our mortal existence can be and how important it is for each of us to be true and faithful until the time of our call to return home to our Eternal Father in Heaven with the firm hope of being united with loved ones through the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the power of the resurrection. This Sabbath day, I invite all members of the Stake to ponder the blessings of the gospel of Jesus Christ in their own lives and families. To plead with our Father in Heaven to continue to minister to and comfort Cassidy, her grandparents and aunts and uncles and cousins, all relatives of the Stay family and all other friends of the family who mourn their loss. Let us ponder our own covenant to “mourn with those that mourn and comfort those that stand in need of comfort.” And let our hearts be full of gratitude for the blessings of the sealing ordinance of the Holy Temple that provides a sure hope that families can be together for the eternities.” “As you pray for the Stay family and their loved ones, please bind yourselves to act to assist them as you feel impressed by the spirit. Cassidy and her family have significant trials and expenses ahead of them. Please be aware that the family has established a trust fund for Cassidy and her family and donations can be made at stayfamilyfund.org. This is the donation fund that the family wishes us to use and 100% of the funds donated via this website go to the trust account. They are very grateful for funds donated via the GoFundMe online site and that site will remain available and those funds, minus the fees charged by GoFundMe will be transferred to the trust fund. “The funeral for the Stay family will be held on Wednesday, July 16 at 2:00PM at the Hafer Road Chapel. The visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, July 15 from 5:30 – 9:00PM at the Klein Funeral Home 16131 Champion Forest Dr. (north of the Houston Temple). We invite all to attend these events and express their love to the surviving family and also to celebrate the lives of these dear and cherished members of the Westfield Ward.” With Love, President David J.
