Letter that I wrote to my senators and congresswoman: Hi Congresswoman Slaughter and staff, I have recently watched John Olivers episode on Drone Strikes at https://youtube/watch?v=K4NRJoCNHIs#t=22. I have also found a White House fact sheet on the drone policy at whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/uploads/2013.05.23_fact_sheet_on_ppg.pdf Unfortunately I cant find the official definition of how the Obama administration defines an imminent threat, so I have to rely on other reports, such as John Olivers program and this article from the Christian Science Monitor csmonitor/USA/DC-Decoder/2013/0524/Has-Obama-tightened-US-drone-strike-policy-or-not Heres a snippet: “And the way that the paper defined those terms rendered the restrictions meaningless,” Mr. Kaplan writes. For instance, according to the white paper, “imminent threat” does not mean a specific attack that “will take place in the immediate future.” Al Qaeda, by definition, is always planning attacks against the US. Therefore, US targeting officials can assume a long time frame when judging whether a terror suspect constitutes a near and present danger. So it sounds like they are using a definition of imminent that is not consistent with commonly accepted definition of: in the immediate future. This makes it sound like the Obama administration is ok with using drones to kill people that people that are in the vicinity of suspected terrorists, regardless if they are innocent. I believe that this is the wrong thing to do. I believe that this warrants a congressional review of the White Houses policy on the matter. I urge that you look into the matter in the immediate future. Thank you. -Alexei Tetenov 90 Roosevelt Rd Rochester, NY 14618
