Letting you know upfront, this is yet ANOTHER lament about NYC - TopicsExpress

Letting you know upfront, this is yet ANOTHER lament about NYC things I grew up with that no longer exist, so you may want to skip this (or, better yet, just unfriend/unfollow me altogether, because Im not gonna stop). Weekend was spent upgrading gear, buying new axes and reminiscing. Picked up a new acoustic and accessories at (ugh!) Guitar Center and, for the hell of it, went up to 48th Street just to see what was left. The answer, nothing, except for Rudys Music. Sam Ash moved to 34th Street. Mannys gone. 48th Street Music gone. Electro Harmonix now a sandwich shop. We Buy Guitars and Musicman LONG gone. Looking at the place now, youd never know the greatest musicians on the face of this Earth once all hung out here. I got autographs from Dizzy Gillespie, Eric Clapton, George Benson and so many other giants on this block. Now the street is damn near empty, no doubt in anticipation of another branch of mega-chains, high-priced boutiques and tourist traps. Craftspeople and their outliers need not apply. Yeah, yeah, I get it--times change. Its depressing because these things used to matter... They should STILL, dammit...
