Let’s Define Sin. The sin, Old Testament and New Testament is a word that simply refers to “missing the mark”. Meaning that when you have a target and there’s a bull’s eye the archer who’s shooting at the target his goal is to hit the bull’s eye. But when he misses the bull’s eye you would say “he missed the mark”. It’s the same thing with sin. Sin is not inherited or transmitted from Adam. Sin is missing the mark. Now let’s see what Brother John says. 1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresses also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. What’s the definition of sin? “The transgression of the law”. See the Bible gives us an accurate and descriptive definition of what sin is. Now since the Bible tells us what sin is we don’t have to worry about what it’s not? We know what it is. But we do know where there is no law there is no sin because sin is the transgression of the law. The question is what law does a baby transgress? Many have tried to use Psalms 51 where David said, “In sin did my mother conceive me”. They go to Psalms 58, “The wicked are estranged from the womb and they go forth speaking lies”. You know youve never heard a two day old baby tell a lie. It’s figurative language. When you read Psalms 51, you hear them say over and over “cleanse me from my sins”. “It’s my iniquity”. He’s saying this is something that I committed against God.
