Let’s not fight like cats and dogs!!!!1Peter 3:8-12 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. Last night at Bible School the lesson was on Joseph and how even though his brothers sold him to slavery, he blessed them when it was in his hands to do so. (Well he did make ‘em sweat a little…LOL) After the Bible lesson we did some Bible drills and I just happened to throw 1 Peter 3:8-10 randomly out to the kids. However this was a perfect ending to the lesson that I had just taught on Joseph. Saturday the boys were playing with Sweetpea (the Cat) and her string. Just a simple shoe string, no big elaborate toy that we paid lots of money for, just a cheap reject of a shoe string. She and the boys were having a ball…until Tootie (the dog) walked in. Tootie has softballs, tennis balls, squeaky toys, stuffed animals chew bones and anything else that gets her attention. But tootie was not happy because Sweetpea and the boys were playing. It didn’t matter to Tootie that they had spent hours with her playing with all of her toys which could not be compared to the small amount of time they had spent with Sweetpea and the shoe string. Tootie began to jump in the middle of Sweetpea and the boys and would not let them have time together, and thus the fighting like cats and dogs became a reality to the boys. Even though Tootie loves Sweetpea and they sleep together and keep each other warm and are great companionship to each other when no one is there, they were fighting like cats and dogs (maybe because they are cats and dogs) The scripture in 1 Peter says that we are to love as brethren. Joseph’s brothers had the cat/dog mindset with their relationship with Joseph, but when it was in Joseph’s hands to do good to his brothers He showed brotherly love. So, when we face situations that it is in our hands to do good, then like Joseph we should show brotherly love and not fight like cats and dogs. Proverbs 3:27 Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.
