Job Description The communications intern will assist the Office of Public Information and Communications in producing bi-weekly newsletters tailored to each high school feeder pattern (two newsletters and four stories per zone), featuring innovative classroom learning experiences showcasing LISD’s Strategic Design. The intern will spend half of their time traveling between campuses within the designated zone to cover and photograph the learning experience taking place on campus, and the other half of their time developing feature stories to be included in the newsletter, whether at home or in the office – whichever works best for you and your schedule! The communications intern will also take on other duties, as assigned by the Office of Public Information and Communications, including – but not limited to – developing and pitching stories to media; creating or updating media lists; photographing various district and/or campus events; writing feature stories about district initiatives; and assisting in event coordination and logistics, etc. This intern will work directly with members of the Office of Public Information and Communications, in addition to LISD and campus administrators, teachers and students. Requirements • Communication: Speak, write and edit succinctly and compellingly • Creativity: Think outside the box • Digital Knowledge: Know all relevant platforms, what brands and stakeholders are doing on them and what they should do next • Dress code: Professional; any and all tattoos and/or piercings must be covered • Interpersonal Skills: Friendly, outgoing, helpful, courteous and respectful of and to others. Play nice, whether it’s in a team, with a team or independently. • Technical: Know Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Constant Contact, PhotoShop and social media tools. Design and video editing skills are a plus. • Time Management: Meet and respect deadlines, multi-task and be flexible • Transportation: Personal vehicle transportation required Details • Hours: 20 hours per week (Office hours are 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday) • Pay: $12 per hour • Internship duration: Jan. 6 – May 2, 2014 • Other: Mileage and expense reimbursement To apply, email resume and cover letter to LISD Public Information Officer Karen Permetti: [email protected] by October 16.
