Leyte town gives 20 houses to Yolanda survivors 29 Mar 2014 Written by Denesse Handumon THE local government of Tanauan, Leyte, will turn over on April 8th 20 houses to families displaced by Supertyphoon Yolanda. The 20 houses in Pago that will be distributed are part of the permanent-housing project for the victims of Yolanda. The local government is targeting to turn over the houses on a weekly basis. The permanent-housing project is part of the priority projects presented by Mayor Pel Tecson during the three-day Donors Forum for Yolanda-affected areas in Leyte and Samar. The forum was organized by the provincial government of Leyte and the German Development Cooperation. The Office of the Mayor identified a total of 1,200 families who need to be relocated after Yolanda hit Tanauan. Three sites have been allotted as resettlement areas: Pago, Maribi and Sacme. These sites have been carefully selected, putting into consideration their proximity to the areas where the victims get their livelihood. Most of the affected families are vendors and fishers. The local government together with the National Housing Authority and Gawad Kalinga donated the lands to the local government. The Department of Public Works and Highways will also help out in constructing the access road to the said sites. A local government resolution was made to institutionalize the 50-meter no- build zone disaster-prone areas.
