Liberia’s début to the Global Leadership Summit (GLS) in the - TopicsExpress

Liberia’s début to the Global Leadership Summit (GLS) in the USA this year was greeted with an award for the great improvements made in hosting last December’s GLS in the country. Liberia was the first of four countries among the more than ninety countries at this year’s International Council of the Willow Creek Association (August 6, 2013) to receive the award. The two-day (August 6-7, 2013) partnership meetings at Willow Creek were laden with life-changing stories of God working through the GLS. Liberia was represented by the Event Manager, Rev. Aisha Cooper Bruce, Rev. Daniel B. McGee, Co-Chair of the GLS Liberia Board and Mother Laurinda A. McGee. There were 1,300 international delegates with a total of 8,000 for this year’s GLS at Willow Creek alone, not counting the satellite sites in the United States and around the world. Ken & Joyce Kampenga drove Laurinda and me to the Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington near Chicago. Upon arriving at the premises of the church we saw a gentleman walking towards the building. We stopped near him and asked for directions for the international registration area. It turned out the gentleman in question was Bill Hybels himself. There I was face to face with this man of God who has been mightily used by the Lord to touch millions around the world. The two-day GLS featured 13 great speakers with relevant, life changing messages from each speaker’s life. From Bill Hybels to Gen. Collin Power to Oscar Muriu of Kenya and the others, we drank deeply from the fountain of expert leadership experience. Most of the speakers are first-rate authors whose books on each topic were on sale. Since I could not afford getting all the books, I got the one that meant the most to me—Dr. Henry Cloud’s “Boundaries for Leaders.” It is my prayer that the principles enshrined in this book will enable me to sharpen my own leadership skills.
