Liberties 3 East Perth 2, It was the return fixture in which East Perth were out for revenge on their arch nemeses who had a five point lead over them at the top of the table. There has never been a more anticipated match in the history of Australian football as it was first v second. The boys from the Liberties had a five point lead going into the game and they knew if they lost then East Perth would be two points behind with plenty of games to play. This Irish derby is going to go down in folklore for many years to come as each team is not just playing for the pride of their jersey but also pride of their country. The game was slightly soured by an outrages suspension to the Liberties coach but this was not going to change how our lads set out to play. The match began with two teams who were wholehearted in all their tackles. Both teams were not prepared to give an inch but in true Liberties fashion our boys started to play ball. Darren ‘can’t catch me’ Hoolahan who has been in serious form of late started pulling the strings in a packed midfield and opened the scoring with a well time strike. The boys deserved the lead and dominated most of the first half by limiting their opposition to long direct balls to their striker. This was bread and butter for the Liberties back line who have struck up a great understanding both on and off the pitch. The second half also began with the boys pressing high up the pitch and with the likes of Aaron (Alonso) in the midfield pulling all the strings, it was only a matter of time before the Liberties scored their second which again came from their inform attacking midfielder Darren Hoolahan. The liberties quickly scored a third goal by their outstanding centre half Kaiser Martin resulting in a lot of the local crowd leaving very early as the boys dominated the match. The victory was slightly knocked back by two late conciliation goals from the home team but this was always going to be the Liberties day. Well done boys for having an eight point lead at the tope of the league and keeping the 100% win record in place. Bring on the draw for the quarter finals of the cup. Also a big thank you to Mr. Thomas ‘The Magician’ Jinks for deputising for the suspend Keogh.
