Library bond issue defeated a second time By LINDA REDEFFER Banner Press Bollinger County voters spoke loud and clear Tuesday. They are not willing to pay higher taxes to get a new library. Twenty-one percent of Bollinger County voters voted against the proposed new building 1,437 to 317 — nearly 82 percent. The Bollinger County Library Board and library director Eva Dunn worked hard to convince voters that the 66-year-old library in Marble Hill needed to be replaced and moved out of its flood-prone location near Crooked Creek. They presented a scaled-back version of the first proposal, which included the Bollinger County Archive and the University of Missouri Extension Center — knocking off about a third of the first proposed building. The extension and archive will move into what is now city hall, once the city moves out. “I’m very, very disappointed,” Dunn said. “It’s a loss not just for us, but for the county.” Whatever the library board’s next step will be, it won’t be taken in this election year. Dunn said that she believes people did not support the library because of other county issues, namely the condition of county roads.
