Libya after Muammar Gaddafi : a bleak budget - Andrea Minciaroni - November 21, 2011 . While Muammar Gaddafi is assassinated with the help of French and American drones bombing the convoy fleeing the Rais and the usual disinformation turns a planned action by NATO forces in the smallest details , such as the right ransom perpetuated by young rebels fighting in the name democracy , the changing face of Libya after four decades. After forty-two years, the regime of Colonel Gaddafi in Sirte falls in the desert giving way to a new phase greeted with great enthusiasm by the international community led by the United States and France. Since that time its been two years and five months. Lets take stock of the changes that the country has gone through in this period. What change since then? The Libyan people have improved their standard of living ? What happened to the phenomenon known as the Arab Spring that seemed able to subvert all established power in favor of democracy? We start from an initial consideration: the complex ethno anthropological structure of Libya. Libya is made up of about 140 ethnic groups spread over a huge expansion of the area is crossed by several cities, from Tripoli , the capital, to Benghazi, Sirte and Misrata. These cities , according to the settlement and ethnic background of the different communities that make up , took an active part in the conflict of 2011 in some cases siding with the armed forces of Saddam and in other cases with the rebels. This trend has given rise to a veritable civil war that led to the tearing of the power structure created by Gaddafi after the coup of 1969, referred to as the Great Socialist Libyan Jamhairyya . Beyond the charismatic figure of Gaddafi, not only for Libya but for several African countries where it has played an active role in contrast to the interests of foreign powers (see the political project of the African Union ) assuming a leadership recognized by several countries the true capacity which gave a lasting form his regime was to have been able to mitigate the inter ethnic conflict within its own . Through its authority The Rais was able over time to stand up to the supreme leader , peacemaker in different instances and fighting each other , thanks to the skill with which he managed to forge alliances with various local communities by Warfalla up to megarich of Fizzan , to mention only two of the largest ethnic groups that make up the mosaic of anthropological Libya. After his fall and the rise to power of the National Transitional Council (CNT) with the support and funding of the Western countries and the United States , such conflicts, attenuated during his tenure but never completely dormant , have re-emerged stronger than ever throwing the country into a spiral of violence that after almost three years still does not seem to end . Beyond the economic aspect , related to the collapse of industrial production and energy that led the country with the largest oil reserves on the continent to buy gas and fuel to stay alive , is primarily political instability element that dominates the scenery of Libya today. Only a few days ago the armed militias commanded by General Khalifia aftar , which has played a leading role in the collapse of the Gaddafi regime , occupied the city of Tripoli declared dissolved the parliament and the general national congress , the highest institutional authority that governs currently the country . While the media attention seems to have completely vanished , along with those right - humanist rhetoric applied to only certain characters, often uncomfortable or invasive compared to plans of foreign powers , Libya continues today to be crossed by Inter ethnic guerrillas , terrorist attacks , by violence and discrimination that prevent the country out of the chaos that surrounds since the NATO operation Unified Protector has kicked off the collapse of the regime . The destabilization perpetuated thanks to the contribution of our country that in a few month has passed since the ratification of a stretch of friendship , approval of military intervention by the support plane first , and then with the support of naval guided missile destroyer Andrea Doria led to the tearing of the social fabric of the entire economic and cultural Libya. This laceration was extended to neighboring countries , causing a crushing geopolitical perpetuated in the absence of diplomatic strategic capacity of Muammar Gaddafi. Think of the Tuareg rebellion in Mali, following the fall of the Libyan regime have returned to his native land , giving life to the movement led by the National Liberation of independence militias compared to national army and armed with arsenals produced during the war Libyan civil . Almost three years after the conflict say that the budget is disheartening almost sounds like an understatement. Libya today does not yet have a constitution, the highest authorities of the country as Prime Minister Ali Zeidan are continually challenged - think of his kidnapping last October - the stagnation of oil production is leading the country to an unprecedented economic crisis , and the safety of citizens is now a chimera in the absence of an authority and a stable power . Apparently, as the recent history teaches , Libya seems to be added to the long list of countries as a result of the actions and projects of NATOs military are unable to re-establish constitutional order , but in fact now live in a constant state of alert , isolated from the same forces that have promised to tear them from the despotic powers with which they have lived for a long time.
