Life-Changing Event: 20 years ago, there was a guy outside a teen dance in Morton that totally caught my eye. The group of friends he was with talked about heading to the lake for a bonfire/tailgate party. My girlfriend and I headed down there too, but “Mr. Michigan” (He was wearing a UM sweatshirt.) wasn’t there right away. When he arrived, Patrick stood behind me with his hands in his pockets, but I couldn’t get him engaged in the conversation that was going on. I kept turning and smiling at him as I was talking, hoping to leave him an opening to join in, but he never did anything more than smile back. I decided this wouldn’t do. I could not let this guy slip away. I turned mid-sentence, put my arms around his waist and then looked up to see his reaction. I saw his amused smile and raised eyebrows looking back. He didn’t seem to mind me staking my claim…
