Life Legacy On September 24th, 2014, Donald John Leary, Jr. (Don), surrounded by his family, peacefully passed on to be with the Lord as a result of a stroke. He was 63 years young. Don was born on September 23rd, 1951 in Edwards NY to Donald and Mildred Leary. He joined the Navy at age 18 and proudly served our country for six years. While on duty in Scotland, Don met “the one,” his wife Noreen. He also received the National Defense Service Medal. Upon discharge he began a career working as a software engineer for various defense contractors. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science from the University of MD. He was a member of the American Legion Post #7. He was an avid amateur poet, story teller and jokester. He loved his motorcycles, grandchildren, ice cream, history channel and beer, not necessarily in that order. Give the man a set of tools and some duct tape and he could fix anything. He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Noreen Leary, his daughter Jennifer Britton and her husband Justin Britton, his grandchildren Jacon and John Roy Britton and his son Scott Leary and his husband James McCann. He is also survived by his siblings William Leary, Marie Belch, Cathy Jones, Margaret Middlestate, and Mildred Robertson, numerous nieces and nephews, and loved ones. Services will be held on Thursday October 2nd, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Riva Trace Baptist Church. Following the service, family and friends are invited to stay at the church for food and fellowship to celebrate Don’s life. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the building fund at Calvary Community Church of Riva. Calvary has supported our family in numerous ways throughout our lives and one of Don’s last wishes that he never got to complete was to donate to this fund.
