Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21 With the exception of kings, judges, and dictators, the application of the above verse from Proverbs is primarily figurative. But make no mistake: it is far from diminutive. We possess no small power in our tongues. Most of us can testify that the human tongue owns the power to kill all sorts of things. Relationships, lifelong dreams, and self-confidence are only a few of the common fatalities. Thankfully, however, perhaps as many of us have also experienced life-giving words of encouragement, instruction, and exhortation. We need His Word on our lips.
