There is a basic principle of driving safety that boneheads seem to forget: NEVER DRIVE FASTER THAN YOU CAN STOP IF SOMETHING IN FRONT OF YOU CAME TO AN INSTANT STOP. When passing cars on either side of you - imagine that an animal, or a little baby, might crawl out directly in front of you. When on ice or hard snow - show WAY down. Going 5mph is a lot more pleasant and faster than waiting for an ambulance and answering to the police for what you just did. Know your real stopping-distance, for any kind of surface. Generally, if you slam into the back of someone else -- youre at fault. And it is always avoidable.
