::::::::::Lifetime service award for ‘Palam Kalyanasundaram::::::::::::::: We Should Really Salute From Our Bottom Heart To This Man........... Noted social worker ‘Palam Kalyanasundaram was honoured with ‘Lifetime Service award at a seminar organised by the Rotary International District 3000 and the Rotary Club of BHEL City Tiruchi, here on Sunday. Thin, frail, emaciated and sporting a shy smile, Palam Kalyanasundaram looks like your next-door neighbour’s old, but affectionate grandpa. Once you get to talk to him, the fire and determination in him shines forth through his words. He speaks in a childlike manner, and his voice, too, is high-pitched, but as you listen, you are awestruck at the yeoman service he has done for humanity. He has received several awards and has donated Rs 30 crore of prize money he got from these honours. Born at Melakarivelamkulam in Thirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu, Kalyanasundaram lost his father at a very young age. It was his mother who inspired him to serve the poor. S.Rajendran, district governor, Rotary International District 3000, presented the award along with a citation to Mr. Kalyanasundaram. The citation lauded Mr. Kalayanasundarams selfless service to society. Even as a student, Mr. Kalyanasundaram, had donated his gold chain in response to an appeal by the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to citizens to donate for the nations defence fund during the course of the Indo-China war. In his acceptance address, Mr. Kalyanasundaram hailed services rendered by the Rotary Club International. Although he had received several awards, it was the Rotary Club of Tirunelveli that recognised his services first with its ‘For the Sake of Honour award......
