Liga Spanish transfer gossip: Barcelona to swoop for Tottenham star Reports in Belgium claim Tottenham Hotspur’s Jan Vertonghen is a Barcelona target as they seek to reinforce their defence. The Het Laatste Nieuws insists Barca are interested in the 26-year-old centre-back and have offered Spurs €27m (£23.2m) in an attempt to take him to the Camp Nou. It follows a series of rebuffs suffered for the Catalan giants from Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Liverpool in their pursuit of Thiago Silva, David Luiz and Daniel Agger respectively. Vertonghen, capped 48 times by Belgium, had an impressive debut season at White Hart Lane after his signing from Ajax for a reported €12.5m (£10.7m) last summer. West Ham United and Fulham are monitoring the progress of Real Betis midfielder Nosa Igiebor. The 22-year-old has been the star of Los Beticos’ pre-season tour of England, so much so that the Hammers and Fulham, Betis’ last opponents, have both showed a interest in bringing him to the Premier League. Betis boss Pepe Mel believes that Igiebor - who appeared in just 16 La Liga games for the Andalusians last term in an injury-interrupted season – will be one of his key men this season and will do everything in his power to keep the Nigerian international at the Benito Villamarin. According to Marca, the interest from both London clubs is strong, but Betis it will take a substantial bid to test Betis’ resolve. Sevilla midfielder Gary Medel is on the brink of a move to Cardiff City, according to a report in Diario ABC. The newspaper claims the Chilean international has already agreed terms with the newly-promoted Welsh club. It is understood that Cardiff have bid €13m (£11.2m) for the 26-year-old, who was bought from Boca Juniors in January 2011 for €3m (£2.6m). Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is tracking Milan right-back Mattia De Sciglio, according to a report in Marca. The 20-year-old is a product of the Milan youth academy, where he has spent nine seasons, and is comfortable on either side of the defence as well as also being able to operate as a central defender. De Sciglio has even been compared to Paolo Maldini and the Milan legend has given the youngster his personal stamp of approval. Ancelotti is particularly impressed by De Sciglio’s versatility - of the 25 games he started last season he played 12 apiece on the right and left, as well as one at centre-back. Fabio Coentrao has told Real Madrid that he is desperate to leave the club before the close of the transfer window. Coentrao knows his days with Madrid are numbered, given new boss Carlo Ancelotti wants to bring both Gareth Bale and Mattia De Sciglio to the Santiago Bernabeu, and reports in Spain suggest his preferred destination is the Premier League. The Portuguese left-back has failed to settle since penning a six-year contract with Los Blancos in July 2011 following his signing from Benfica for a reported €30m (£25.8m) fee, and is now studying a number of proposals. It is believed Monaco were interested in the 25-year-old some months ago and could now revive their interest, although former boss Jose Mourinho is considering bringing him to Stamford Bridge. There is also the possibility that Coentrao could be used as a makeweight in the deal to bring Bale to the Spanish capital.
