Like a lot of you, Ive flown many times throughout life, traveling - TopicsExpress

Like a lot of you, Ive flown many times throughout life, traveling halfway around the world and back again in younger years, on all types of aircraft. But this one thing still gets to me. I was reminded of it just this week in flying that rather brief flight back from sunny Florida where the storms can come on quickly and strong, seemingly out of nowhere. Turbulence. We were delayed at the airport in leaving, huge storm rolled in with heavy rains and lightening strikes all around. 3 hours later we boarded and began our journey home. And the plane navigated through the bumpy ride, jolting here and there, leaving my stomach in knots. Seriously. I dont like it. I breathe deep, trying to relax, all the while holding on white knuckled to the chair or to my husband, who is amazingly able to sleep through it all, lol, thinking of just needing to get home for 3 kids who await. By definition, turbulence is the random, chaotic motion of air, caused by changes in air currents. Sounds so similar...to life. Sometimes life takes a random shift. Through turbulence. Youre not prepared. Things seem sunny then the storm rolls in. Its big. Its life changing. Its chaotic. It jolts and shakes, leaving you spinning and white knuckled trying to hold on tightly to what matters most in this life. I read something before, how pilots know the best way to navigate through turbulence. Theyre taught to slow down. “What you don’t want to do is fight the turbulence,” one pilot writes, “If turbulence is causing you to go up, you don’t want to push down hard on the controls, you want to try to slow down and ride it out to the other side. You don’t make any sudden control moves, because that could cause you to over stress the airplane.” Sounds like a great plan for real life. During the toughest of times. Slow down. Dont fight it. Ride it out. Dont make any sudden moves that cause greater stress. Navigating the bumps and turbulence of life seems most safe under the care of One who can hold it all together. When we cant. Because as much as we may wish it were so, were never promised a smooth flight without twists, turns, and bumps along the way. But in it all, the white knuckled grip, and the reality that makes you realize how much you are not in control, leads us to this one thing. Thats sure. That confident. That stands secure. He is never shaken. And He holds us in His hands. Through every turbulent flow. In every life changing shift. He holds fast. And steady. Rest there my friend, if your thoughts are whirling and youre in shaky times, you are not alone. Ever... Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. Psalm 62:1-2 Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
