Like many of you, Ive been thinking a lot about the video of Ray Rice assaulting his fiancée. I was rereading the articles in todays Telegraph Herald addressing domestic violence and it really hit me. We dance around the elephant in the room without ever naming the obvious when trying to understand domestic violence and why it exists. Some men HATE women, find them to be inferior and will do ANYTHING to keep their perceived power. This is of course part of the reason domestic violence shelters are FILLED with women throughout our country. We dont ever acknowledge that. And I get why. Its not easy to accept that such outright hate exists right here in our communities. But its here. Remember these guys? The guys that started a hate campaign against me for speaking out against violence against women. For a just a few minutes, look at what they are talking about on their site and pay attention to the THOUSANDS of followers that reinforce their messaging. I usually dont spend a lot of time dwelling on the problem and prefer focusing my energy on solutions, but sometimes I think we need to make sure we know why the problem exists in the first place.
