Like the Dan? Valerie Smith-Madden Russell, I love SD, it is past religion, its way past obsession, it is incorporated into my daily life,Their lyrical observations find there way into my daily conversation. My iPod and music catalog can attest.I have books, interviews, performance DVDs. There are mixes, remixes, versions, snippets. I am actually wearing ..as I type..a vintage Steely Dan T-shirt from the 93 tour. If Im feeling particularly infirmed, not think lightens my spirit like a dose of the Dan! A prime example of SDs power follows. On occasion, I venture amongst the great unwashed, largely on my way to and from the Y. Yesterdays foray involved a rear end accident, no real harm to me, but the resulting situation, uncovered the weakness of communication ...surprise, surprise... in the MTA system. After the collision, I was treated to comic scenes and situations I hadnt seen since the days of Amos and Andy! we gotta wait fo dah supahvisah! When the super finally appeared 40 minutes to an hour later ...mind you the accident happened at MLK and Baltimore street near center city..., I swear he was a combo of Andrew Brown meets Dah Kingfish. The ensuing antics were classic A&A and priceless. The other two passengers on the bus and I were amazed and entertained as the comedy of errors kept coming. Eventually they...Mobility...transported me to my destination, home. At which time, I went immediately to this! Though a homage to the poet Homer, it was the perfect soundtrack to my personal Odyssey. The danger on the rocks has surely past, still I remain tied to the mast, could it be Ive finally found my home at last? Home at last! Dont take my word, listen to theirs! ;)
