Lil Wayne is the greatest rapper of all time. No Im not drunk or high. But as I sit here and listen to one of Lil Wayne albums and just thinking about the entire history of hip hop musically and as a culture Lil Wayne is the most complete artist that ever did it. But let me break down my logic on this. My personal favorite rapper is Ice Cube but to be honest he does not posses half the influence Lil Wayne does. And if we look at the career length Lil Wayne has held his prominent position on top being relevant longer than any other artist ever including Jay-Z. No doubt that Jay -Z is still hot but Jay-Z in his prime hottest time still did not supersede Lil Wayne at his hottest moment. And I dont think he is even done. He has mix tapes that are hotter than Jay-Z latest album. His influence on pop culture has effected every single aspect of the hip hop culture. People look, dress and act like Lil wayne. Tattos on the face and dreads were not half as popular into Lil Wayne began that era. His off spring artist like Drake & Nicki Minaj have become phenomenal artist. Who else other than Dr.Dre can even come close. Lyrically he is more superior than Notorious Big. His phonetics, word play and story telling is all just better. Of course Big life was cut short so we dont have much material for comparison but from what is available if you compare the two there is no question. Then of course the measuring stick in which all rappers are judged is Tupac. Tupac was arguably the greatest rapper because of 2 things. 1 he was passionate and 2 he made being positive and conscious cool. But if you listen to Lil Wayne he comes complete with songs of social issues but because of his party and drug persona many people disregard his positive music. But Lil Wayne is the most complete artist to ever do it. Even if you look at the numbers which is actually not a good way to judge because numbers do lie. The reason I say that as a disclaimer because if we refer to numbers then we have to add rappers like Vanilla Ice into the equation. But in the history of hip hop there has only been 3 rappers to go platinum in one week. That means a million copies sold in the first week of the release. And that is Eminem, 50 cent and Lil Wayne. Honorable mention to Snoop Dog who came very close on his debut album so lets throw him in the group. But if you simply compare the stats of those 4 artist there is no question that Lil Wayne is the most complete. With the exception of Snoop Dog because I have to place him in his own league above simply hip hop because he is an iconic figure in pop culture world wide. If there is another planet in the galaxy that knows about American culture im sure they are aware of who Snoop is he is simply that big. But in hip hop music Lil Wayne is the greatest rapper to ever do it thus far. If you are a hip hop artist and your looking for the definition of a rapper there should be a pic of Lil Wayne. The man cold. Just my thought.
