Lily appeared in this video about the McDonalds at KAP closing down. Like the McDonalds at YMCA (that was closed down in late 1990s), this place is where the Deaf and Hearing chat freely in Sign Language. It is near Ngee Ann Polytechnic. This school has its Hi! Club where Hearing students learn Sign Language. Sadly, it is going to close down soon this month. Her story started when she was waiting for her O-Level results (1997-1998). At that time, she didnt know much about Deafness and Singaporean Sign Language #SgSL. She was made to speak with using her voice alone when she was in Canossian School for the Hearing Impaired (now renamed Canossian School) and St. Anthonys Canossian Secondary School. She made new friends with Deaf people at the McDonalds @ YMCA. Thats how she learnt more about Deafness and SgSL. She could never forget those times, especially when the store was about to close. We all chatted till it was nearly 11pm. Interestingly about our Deaf Culture, moments of leaving or saying goodbyes take a longer time than saying hellos. The staff chased us away as possible as they could, till we were outside the store. On most of Fridays, many Deaf people gathered at the McDonalds @ YMCA for their chat. It was closed down. Till now, several of us talk about that McDonalds to reminisce our memories.
