Line School PTC Meeting Minutes- Wednesday, September 11, 2013 Members Present: Anastasia Ferguson, Pam Beaulieu, Denise Masalsky. Lisa Burgess, Melissa Knight, Brenda Wedgewood, Shirley Keller, Wendy LaPierre, Tim Stinson, Jodi Laine, Patricia Kafka, Kris Wescott, and Danae Secunde. June Minutes: Melissa Knight amended the June 2013 minutes to reflect the correct date of June 12, 2013; Mrs. Keller seconded, and all approved. Treasurer Report: Mrs. Wedgewood reported the PTC balance is $8,137.18. The PTC holds in trust two cd’s whose interest is applied to scholarships given to former Line students at graduation. The PTC does have two cd’s for the amount of $2,418.81. Bully Prevention Program for October: There was discussion about bully prevention awareness. How can we as a group help bring awareness to this subject? Mr. Stinson and others stated that Line School has a bully prevention committee that works throughout the year on these issues. It is made up of staff and students. In recent discussions with PTC president and staff, they concluded it would be advantageous for members of the committee to be more visible. The idea was to have t-shirts created for members. Kris Wescott motioned to allot $250 to cover 20 t- shirts. Ms. Knight seconded, and all approved. Mr. Stinson indicated that he will send home a letter in October to let parents know what we already do for bully awareness and who is on that team. Fundraisers- The Genevieve Fundraiser order was sent home to Line families and is due back on September 27, 2013. Our profit last year for the fundraiser was $3,187.01. Line School Yearly Events: Line School T-Shirts for K and new students - Amy Samson responsible- last year we spent over $1,000 for new t-shirts. Bus Driver Appreciation/Bus Safety Week - October 21-25 - Last year teachers brought in breakfast food for the bus drivers. This year the breakfast will take place on Oct. 25th; staff will provide breakfast food. Trunk or Treat - On Halloween - Rain or Shine Trunk or Treat will take place at the Line School parking lot, weather permitting (in the middle of the parking lot) and if it’s raining, in the gym. The event doesn’t start till 6:00 p.m and goes to 7:00 p.m.. A letter will be sent home and people interested need to RSVP. For those who are distributing candy they need to be in the parking lot by 5:15 or 5:30 p.m. Tag Sale - The Tag Sale will take place November 2, 2013, first Saturday in November. The drop off for the Tag Sale will be on Friday during the day. Greg Masalsky will do soliciting for the raffle items. The tag sale profit from last year’s event was $1,600. Square 1 Art: The art fundraiser starts in February and Martha Bovie, the Art teacher, has the students complete their art work in Art class. Ms. Wescott offered to run this fundraiser again. The profit from last years Square Art was $876. Book Fair - Ms. Laine will not be able to run the book fair this year. She will help out, but is unable to be physically at the school. A suggestion was to contact Mrs. Braun, the retired librarian, to see if she would be interested in running the fair. Mrs. Wedgewood indicated she would email Mrs. Braun. The week of March 24 to the 28th is the tentative week for the book fair. Other Events: Staff Appreciation Week - First week of May Muffins with Mom - May 8th and 9th Donuts with Dad - June 5th and 6th Recognition Night - Last week of School Field Day - Last week of School Consumer Fundraisers: Box Tops - Continue this fundraiser Labels for Education - Discontinue Clink - At Hannaford in Waterboro Continue (Bags in the Office) JD’s Redemption - Discontinue Hannaford Bucks - Continue Recycle Ink Cartridges to Staples for Rewards - Ms. Wedgewood will take are of this Upcoming Meetings: The PTC will continue the rotating schedule of day meetings one month and then the other month will be at night. Box Top Goal: Box Top goal last year (2012-2013) was $1,903.51, we raised $1,854.77. Box Top goal for this year (2013-2014) is $2,250.36. PTC Closet Mr. Stinson cleaned the closets over the summer and gave the PTC their own closet. THANK YOU MR. STINSON!!!!! Scholastic Bucks/Reward - Reward Balance $25.00 Expires 10/1/13. It was determined to order books to put in two basket for the Tag Sale, one for lower and one for upper elementary grades. Mrs. Masalsky motioned to spend fifty dollars toward the purchase of books for the two book baskets for the Tag Sale. Mr. Stinson seconded, and all approved. Total Scholastic Buck Balance: $1,311.37 Profit Balance: $1,286.37 New Business/Suggestion: Ms. Knight indicated at the end of last year there was discussion for the fifth grade students to design their Line School t-shirt at the beginning of the this year. This way they could be worn throughout their fifth grade year. Then at the end of the year, receive their Middle School t-shirts. This suggestion was favorably agreed upon. Ms. Knight will have fifth graders design their options for the t-shirt. Mr. Stinson brought up a discussion from last year on purchasing a new school sign. This was tabled till a later date. Mrs. Wedgewood asked in if the PTC could purchase a new recess toy bucket for first grade. In the past we’ve purchased from WalMart and the items are broken immediately. A member of PTC will look at finding recess toys that are more durable. M. Knight motioned to approve up to $30 for a bucket, Shirley Keller seconded, and all approved.. Movie Night - Wendy LaPierre commented that she would be willing to run movie night. This item will be discussed at a later time. Next meeting October 9, 2013 @3:15 in the school library; child care provided.
