Link to Buffalo, filmed at The Towne Crier Cafe in August of 2008 when I opened for Richie Havens. I wrote the song years ago. It was conceived at Folk City in the early 70s. A mind-reader a la Kreskin was on the bill. Before the show, his assistant asked people at random to write down a question on a paper wed keep, which he would answer during his set. It was early November, and, going to Buffalo the next morning, I wrote, Is it snowing in Buffalo? He came to the stage and said at one point, Someone is thinking about the weather somewhere. I called out from the back, Yeah, is it snowing in Buffalo? From the front rows a couple turned around and said, No - theyd just returned from there. It was Willie Nile and his wife (at the time). Thus began a lifelong friendship. The next day on the train I looked out the window somewhere in Western NY, put my hand in a pocket and pulled out the paper from the night before - Is it snowing in Buffalo? A song, I knew, and wrote it in two nights a few months later. Buffalo is on my Moments of Grace cd, on cdbaby. God bless the people of Buffalo and Western NY and bring them through this safely.
