Lions Den Hotel/camping area is 25km shy of Cooktown and about a 250km drive north of Mareeba. The road is in good condition, but dont expect any network coverage, other than a flash in the pan at Lake Roadhouse. Powered site with water was $28. (Kids $6 each extra) The hotel is beside a really nice creek (Annan River) which is safe for kids to swim. Fires and dogs are allowed. No Telstra coverage. Toilets, laundry facilities and hot showers are available also. They have 4 elevated safari tents along the banks for hire. Coffee/ pizzas and all meals are served. Locals say the Lions Den is better than Cooktown due to the abundance of midges up there! The hotel has a museum room full of unusual looking reptiles and nic nacks... The walls are covered in signatures and has a really good atmosphere, but no wifi.
