Listed as a series, the congressional impasses, conflicts, and imbroglios of the past five years resemble plot points for a dark television satire titled Apocalypse As Usual.” The third paragraph of this article explains the changes in the Republican and Democrat Parties which so many who say that the Democrat Party was the party of racists; and since they are Tea Party Republicans, and their party is not racist and never was, they are not racists, Democrats are. Their historical understanding is based on taking facts out of context. Some of the most vehement racists were Southern white politicians who were Democrats until the Civil Rights Movement gained power in the Democrat Party; and they switched parties. Their interests in Civil Rights was relabled States Rights, i.e. whites rights. The problem isn’t that there’s a black President; it’s that the country has changed in ways that made Obama’s election possible. Sixty-five years ago, the Dixiecrats spearheaded a movement toward the G.O.P. The Tea Party is an echo of that same movement, save for one distinction: in 2013, the rebels have nowhere left to go.
