Listen to the Muslim demonstrator, Diallo. I deeply appreciate the good intentions of everyone who marched, including Diallo’s, but I think his statement is delusional. The Charlie Hebdo murderers shouted Allahu akbar (Allah is great) and “We have avenged the prophet Mohammed!” after gunning down 12 people. How do you go from that to this? “This is not a question of religion. It’s a personal problem, and in fact it doesn’t have to do with Islam.” The same, obviously, is true for Anwar al-Awlaki, Abubakar al-Baghdadi, Mohammed Atta, Roshonara Choudhry, Nidal Malik Hasan, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, Osama bin Laden, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnev, Numan Haider, Richard Reed, Ajmal Kasab, Abubakr Sekau, Abu Shamil, Man Haron Monis, Zale H. Thomson, Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, Mehdi Nemmouche, Michael Adebolajo, Michael Adebowale, Arid Uka, Faisal Shahzad, Shamil Basayev, Sheikh Khalid Mohammed, and thousands of other murderers and mass murderers who we mistakenly thought had acted in “defense” of their faith. It wasn’t Islam at all; they just had a personal problem. Glad that’s all cleared up. - Exerpt from Patheos, today.
