Little Guy in the Eye· Zion is the little guy in the Eye Zec 2:7 Deliver thyself, O Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon. Zec 2:8 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye. (little guy in the Eye - Psalm 17:8; Deuteronomy 32:9-10) Zion is a term for Gods people Isa 51:16 And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people. Gods people dwell in Zion Isa 10:24 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt. The Lord has chosen Zion Psa 132:13 For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation. Psa 132:14 This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it. Psa 132:15 I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread. Psa 132:16 I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy. Psa 132:17 There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed. Psa 132:18 His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish. Zion is equivalent with heavenly Jerusalem Heb 12:22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, Heb 12:23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, Heb 12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel. God dwells in Zion Psa 9:11 Sing praises to the LORD, which dwelleth in Zion: declare among the people his doings. Jesus is the King of Zion Psa 2:6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. Zion is the city of the Great King Psa 48:2 Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King. Zion comes out of Babylon Zec 2:7 Deliver thyself, O Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon. There is true Zion and there is false Zion. True Zion points the way to Messiah Jesus. False Zion points the way to the antichrist. (Matthew 7:13) Zion is a picture of nomads (Psalm 39:12; 1 Peter 2:11) walking in the desert towards a mark. Zion = The bride in the wilderness (Revelation 12:14). In the desert is where dragons reside (Deuteronomy 8:15). This is the place of warfare between the seeds (Genesis 3:15; Luke 10:19). It is only through abiding under the shadow of His Wings (Psalm 91) that we can overcome these enemies and enter the Kingdom. Zion comes out of Babylon (Zechariah 2:7) which is linked to the wilderness as it will be a habitation of unclean creatures of the desert (Isaiah 34:13; Revelation 18:2). Zion is the city of the great King. Who is this King? Jesus. Psa_48:2 Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King. Psa 149:2 Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: let the children of Zion be joyful in their King. Psa 2:6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. Psa 2:7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Psa 2:12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. Act 13:33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. Heb 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Heb 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Heb 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Heb 1:4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. Heb 1:5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? The Gospel proclaims this Son, this King. Isa 52:7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth! Jesus is the LORD, the King of Israel Isa 44:6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. Zec_9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass. Mat 21:5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass. Mat 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: Judaism denies the King Luk 19:27 But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me. Joh 19:15 But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. Judaism is a rebellious vineyard which rejects the King, the Son who is THE heir of the promises to Abraham (Galatians 3:16). Gal 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. Gal 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. Gal 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. Gal 3:29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. Near the end of His ministry, the Jews asked the Messiah where He got His authority to do what He was doing in which He asked them about their belief in the baptism of John (Matthew 21:23-27; Mark 11:27-33; Luke 20:2-8). He then gave them the parable of the vineyard where the workers of the vineyard kill the servants of their Master and eventually His Son so that they can seize the inheritance (Matthew 21:28-41; Mark 12:1-9; Luke 20:9-16). Messiah said they rejected the cornerstone and as a result they were to be rejected and the vineyard/kingdom would be given to others (believers in Messiah – Ephesians 3:8-12) (Matthew 21:42-44; Mark 12:10-11; Luke 20:17-19). The Lord Jesus warned believers of those who did not bring forth fruit after their “field” was given dung that their “tree” would be cut down (Luke 13:8-9). The “vineyard” that rejects Messiah Jesus and does not bring forth the fruit of His Word/Spirit will be destroyed (Matthew 21:33-43). This was also the warning of John the Baptist (Luke 3:8-9) {“Elijah message“}. Yet, if we seek His Face at all times (1 Chronicles 16:11) we will see Jesus (Hebrews 1:3; 2 Corinthians 4:4-6) and we will not be unfruitful (2 Peter 1:4-9). Israel is likened to an olive tree in the Scriptures but due to their rejection of God’s love, He cast them away and ‘reformed’ them (Jeremiah 18:1-6). Messiah Jesus is the Olive tree. He is the root (Romans 11:16; Isaiah 6:13; Galatians 3:16; Colossians 2:7; Ephesians 3:17), the holy Firstfruit (1 Corinthians 15:52). He is the source of life (Acts 3:15; John 1:4). The branches of Israel come forth from Him (John 15:1-13). If we are not in Him, we are dried up and cast into the fire (John 15:5-6; Matthew 3:10; 7:19; 13:41). Let anyone who believes that genealogy without faith in Him makes you a part of the olive tree take heed. The chosen people are marked with the mark of YHWH…those who keep the Torah {Genesis – Revelation} and the testimony (belief in Christ Jesus – Revelation 12:17). Those with the mark of the beast are those who reject Messiah Jesus and according to the Scriptures are already antichrists (1Joh 2:18). The Word of God was committed to Israel, who was called to bring forth God’s glory/love to the world. Instead, Israel fell into idolatry and was cast into the nations. Judah was cast into Babylon but by God’s grace was allowed to return to the land with another opportunity to bring forth God’s message of love to the nations. Instead, Judah chose to form a religion which corrupted the message of God’s Word and instead of man being formed into His image, they were to be formed into the image of Judaism. The fruit which Israel was called to produce was the ‘goodly’ fruit of His Word (Jeremiah 11:16). However, Israel did not produce this fruit but brought forth wicked fruit (Jeremiah 24:2-8). As a result, God brought fire upon this olive tree, breaking the branches thereof (Jeremiah 11:16-17). The Hebrew word for ‘goodly’ in Jeremiah 11:16 is תאר ‘toar’ which means a shape, form, outline or figure of a thing. תאר ‘toar’ is a cognate of the word תורה ‘torah’ which literally means instruction which defines the border of a people or the ‘image’ of a people. תורה ‘torah’ is most commonly translated as ‘law.’ Here we see that Israel was to produce the fruit of His Law which would bring forth His image to the world. His Image is that of love (1John 4:8, 16; Matthew 22:35-40). Israel did not bring forth this image of love (Luke 7:36-47; 10:27-37; 18:9-14). Although they were zealous for the law (Acts 21:20; 22:3), in their zealousness they corrupted its true meaning (Romans 10:2). They were outwardly religious, yet inwardly full of wickedness (Luke 11:39; 16:15; 20:47; Matthew 6:2-5, 16; 23:5, 25-27). They separated themselves from the peoples of the world, declaring anyone who didn’t worship God according to their traditions was an unclean heathen (John 4:9; 8:48; Acts 10:28). By their traditions they had put up a dividing wall between themselves and others (Acts 21:28; Ephesians 2:14-15), preventing them from drawing nearer to God (Luke 11:52) as Israel was the custodians of His Word (Romans 3:2; John 4:22) which reveals His nature to mankind. It was their traditions which corrupted the Word of God (Matthew 15:2-9; Mark 7:3-13; Colossians 2:8) and perverted the message of His love to mankind, which led Jesus Christ to declare them as lawless (Matthew 23:28; John 7:19). It is because of this lack of love (Matthew 5:22; John 15:25) that the Lord was sent to Israel to separate the good trees from the bad (Malachi 3:2-3; 4:1; Matthew 3:10-12; Luke 3:9; John 15:2). The inheritance was taken away from the bad trees and given to a nation that would produce the fruit of love which the Lord desires (Matthew 21:33-46; Mark 12:1-12; 1 Peter 2:4-9; Galatians 3:1-29). Believers in Messiah became a ‘reformed’ Olive tree and were given the call to abide in Him (Hebrews 3:1-6), being formed into His image (Philippians 3:14-15; Ephesians 1:1-6; 1:17-23), bearing forth His fruit (2 Peter 1:5-9), called to bring forth God’s Gospel of love to the world (2 Timothy 1:9-11), revealing His image (2 Thessalonians 1:11-12). The Greek word for ‘calling is κλῆσις ‘klēsis’ which is used in the Septuagint to translate the Hebrew word קרא ‘qara’ which, as mentioned above, is associated with manifesting God’s name/image on earth. The promise to Abraham is to his Seed, the Messiah (Galatians 3:16) and His people (Galatians 3:26-29). Paul says that not all Israel which are of Israel (Romans 9:6) and that the promise is not through the flesh, but through the promise (Romans 9:8; Galatians 4:22-31), the sons of God – the joint heirs with Messiah (Galatians 4:6; Romans 8:14-17). Messiah also said that those who reject Him would lose their “nation” and it would be given to others (Matthew 21:41-43; 8:11-12), Scripture defines as believers in Messiah (1 Peter 2:9), and that the kingdom belongs to those who are born again (John 3:3-5). The inheritance was taken away from the bad trees and given to a nation that would produce the fruit of love which the Lord desires (Matthew 21:33-46; Mark 12:1-12; 1 Peter 2:4-9; Galatians 3:1-29). If a follower of Judaism comes to believe in Messiah then they are grafted back in to the olive tree and return to the inheritance but otherwise I don’t see anywhere that a “cut off branch” still can claim the promises to Abraham. Isa 62:11 Behold, the LORD hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him. Isa 62:12 And they shall call them, The holy people, The redeemed of the LORD: and thou shalt be called, Sought out, A city not forsaken. Jesus is the LORD with the reward Rev 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. The Holy Nation are those who believe in Jesus. 1Pe 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 1Pe 2:10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. Who are the redeemed? Christians (Titus 2:14; 1 Peter 1:18; Revelation 5:9; 14:3-4; Galatians 3:13; 4:5). Rev 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; Rev 5:10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. Rev 14:3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth. Rev 14:4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: Gal 3:14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Gal 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, Gal 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. Gal 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. The promises/inheritance to Abraham belongs to the redeemed in Christ. Gal 3:29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. Gal 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. Rom 4:13 For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. Rom 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: Rom 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. Eph 1:17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the full knowledge of Him, Eph 1:18 the eyes of your mind having been enlightened, for you to know what is the hope of His calling, and what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, Col 3:24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. Act 26:14 And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. Act 26:15 And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest. Act 26:16 But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee; Act 26:17 Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, Act 26:18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me It is King Jesus the LORD, that brings the redeemed to the land. Jer 23:5 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. Jer 23:6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. Jer 23:7 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall no more say, The LORD liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt; Jer 23:8 But, The LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land. Zion represents the people and the land of the Covenant. Biblically, people are equated with lands. The Scriptures refer to the people and land of the covenant as Zion, so the adversary/counterfeiter desires to be linked with this term Zion. The adversary seeks to be like the Most High (Isaiah 14:14), sitting on the sides of the North. This is defined as Mt. Zion. Psa 48:2 Beautiful on high, the joy of all the earth, is Mount Zion, in the sides of the north, the city of the great King. Messiah comes with vengeance because of this subject and the hijacking of Zion by the adversary. Isa 34:8 For it is the day of the LORD’S vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion. The above word for controversy is from the Hebrew word ‘riyb’ which means a struggle or strife. In particular, it is a word which pictures a leader of a family, tribe or nation striving to protect his people. This word comes from the root ‘rab’ which means the ‘head of a family.’ This is the essence of the struggle/controversy of Zion. Who is your head? Messiah Jesus or the adversary.
