Little Mama had the strangest afternoon yesterday. She woke up - TopicsExpress

Little Mama had the strangest afternoon yesterday. She woke up from her nap and came looking for me. Im in the family room off the kitchen writing and she stops in the doorway, gives me the teacher look, and asks, Are you ready for me to do your hair? Im thinking WTF? I grinned. I didnt ask you to do my hair. She frowned. But you said... I interrupted. Mother, you just woke up from a nap. Dont you think you might have dreamed that? Her eyes get all big and then she grinned. Boy, I sure am glad about that. I cant remember how to do hair anymore. We had a good laugh and I think thats the end of it, and yet I would have been wrong. About an hour or so later she comes flying back into the room. Are you ready to get that ice cream started? The kids will be here any time. I was right in the middle of writing a tense scene and I am rudely yanked back into the reality of my crazy world. There arent any kids here and none are coming and Im not making ice cream. If you want some, its in the freezer, I said. Really? she says. Really. I said. She left the room shaking her head. And then the best one was late yesterday evening. Again, Im still trying to write and I hear that scoot scoot scoot of her house shoes on the tile floor and I think, what now? Well, I would never have guessed it. She stops in the doorway...which now that I think about it, is where she always stops, like shell be ahead of me should she have to run. LOL Anyway, she puts her hands on her hips and gives me a dark frown. Have you tended to those cats yet? You cant let them go hungry, you know. Cats? Im thinking. Surely I heard her wrong. Mother, did you say cats, as in small furry animals with long tails. She rolled her eyes. Yes, I said cats. Have you fed them yet? Mother. We have no cats. There are no cats in the house. There are no cats in the yard. Stunned look comes on her face. You mean Im imagining cats? Yep, I said. Dont worry. Imaginary cats dont get hungry. Well then, that takes care of that, she said, and off she went. Shes taking a nap right now. I cant wait to see what shes concocted in her sleep this time. I hope Im up for it. Im still trying to write. Unfettered by the stimuli of the world around us, sleep is when your body ceases motion and your mind becomes free. Free to imagine. Free to rest. Free to dream. Dreams can be a goal. Dreams can be an escape. Dreams should not replace reality. It is only through hard work that we make our dreams come true.
