Little Miss melanoma post: Today was an emotional one at the dermatologist. It was Supposed to be my last bi-annual exam since the diagnosis. It is also my first exam since my friend Jeff Swanson died from melanoma a few weeks ago... I think that and spite of all of my bravado this disease scares the shit out of me. I told Jeff story and even my dermatologist and her medical assistant were shocked and saddened by it. I had to have another biopsy as well. Its difficult to describe the conflict in emotions-On the one hand I feel sad that this will always be a monkey on my back, something I have to always watch over my shoulder for and be ever vigilant... But on the other hand I feel so grateful and yet so guilty that I have the opportunity to even be on watch. Jeff no longer does. My dermatologist and I decided I should stay on every six months exams just to be safe. Get your skin checks. You are the only one who can save your own life. #GetNaked
