Little Things . Yestermorn I was enjoying my daily constitutional when I discovered a lawnmower set out on a nearby curb. Some civic-minded neighbor was apparently trying to spare this still-useful beast from the city dump, for on it was taped a small sign: . Not mine. Yours? . I thought, This is a question that demands an answer, so home I went to make a sign of my own: . No. Not mine, thank you. . Sadly, by the time I got back down to the corner with my riposte in one hand and a camera in the other, someone had already been by to grab the prize, depriving me of a bit of fun and a photo op. [Sigh] . But ! Just then the sun came out from hibernation and I recalled that Id seen some interesting toadstools in a nearby wood that morning. The light wasnt good for pictures then, though, and besides that, I didnt have my camera. Now the light was excellent, and camera I did have. What a boon. . When Id gotten some shots I liked, I trotted back home, and on the way it occurred to me how pleased I always seem to be with some of lifes most inconspicuous and ephemeral little things. Things others are too busy to notice, and certainly too important to care about, even if they did. Like a cluster of elegant little fungi that can be seen but once in a blue sun. Or a clever little graffito that hopped onto to my wavelength for just a moment before getting lost in the static of someone elses busy life. . For Henry Fesler
