Little engineers evaluate buildings and structures; they carefully consider how these can be recreated and plan to do just that. This area provides young children with the opportunity to create and recreate structures for use in their play or simply for the love of engineering. The construction area is equipped with a range of blocks in varying shapes, sizes and materials as well as items which the creative child can make use of such as straws, string, tape etc. Small world resources encourage children to develop an understanding of urban and rural environments and how these affect people and the work they do. Children have opportunities to collaborate and achieve shared goals, these life skills enable children to achieve and succeed beyond the early years classroom. How technology enhances the experience: Using technology children are able to visit virtually any structure across the world such as London Bridge, The Empire State Building, and The Pyramids of Giza in fact just about anything without leaving the school building. These engineering feats are sources of inspiration as young children experience and use technology to plan and design their own structures before building them with real materials.
