Little known but interesting fact about myself: I’m a big NPR - TopicsExpress

Little known but interesting fact about myself: I’m a big NPR fan. There are plenty of reasons to like NPR I’m sure, but mine is the “News.” Being of at least average intelligence I’m aware that there’s no such thing as clean unbiased news. Everything has a spin, but it’s not a binary issue there’s some grey area in there. NPR and I suppose to some extent GPB(which is who I get my NPR from) deliver their news with a level of spin within my limits. Except when it comes to talking about public schools and other government funded establishments…. But for the thousands of other subjects they cover: international, national, global, local it’s all fairly mute and low-spin. I imagine there are also a few reasons to hate NPR too. I imagine. But it’s hard for me to see them over the one big looming issue I have with them. Namely: their interviews. And even more specific their interviews hosted by Terry *barf in my mouth* Gross. For those of you who don’t know, but are building some interest she runs (co-runs?) a program called “Fresh Air”. Give me a minute and I’ll try to come up with a joke about fresh air and her show not… having it? So what’s wrong with these Gross interviews? Ha, get it? Well let me preface this by explaining that, at least in my opinion, Gross is easily one of the most drink-the-Kool-Aid, brainwashed, carry the blue flag, two steps away from social fascism ‘folk’ I’ve ever heard in the media. Now, what I hate about this is not her interviews where she brings on some likeminded so-and-so and they play telephone with the same #trending fair-weather opinion. Nope what gets me is when she brings on someone you might call a ‘free thinker’ ( I call them this, you might). If you’re inclined to stop here for lack of proof, go look up her recent interview with comedian Chris Rock. Listen to it, and come back here and we’ll chat. These interviews tend to go the same no matter what: Terry: So, Guest, *some spoon fed lib garbage that’s trending on tumblr or twitter or whatever* wouldn’t you agree? Guest: Well Terry honestly no. I’d have to say I don’t agree. Terry: Well Guest I have to say I’m shocked. I didn’t expect you to disagree and what’s more I can’t say I would have invited you on my show had I known you didn’t agree with the HIVE MIND! Surely you understand you’re wrong though. Guest: Terry everyone is inclined to an opinion and that’s no reason to silence or screen them. But as per my opinion *completely reasonable argument supported by facts and citations* and that’s how through deliberate consideration I came to feel how I feel. Terry: That’s all well and good Guest but you must see that-that thinking doesn’t align with the current-politically-correct-mandated-social-philosophy taught in public schools, college campuses and reported across CNN and social media at large. Such ideas are inflammatory and conflict with the will of the people. Guest: Who are these men in white… wait… where are you taking me…. No stop! NOOOOOO….. Terry: One of us. One of us. One of us. Know that I didn’t deviate much here; this is pretty much exactly what happens. So today’s example for those of you who haven’t fallen asleep was, as I said, the Chris Rock interview. Where essentially Chris Rock explains he doesn’t perform on college campuses because college students are too politically correct (conservative, as he says) and too easily offended to the point where they no longer enjoy humor. Terry Gross doesn’t deny that this is the truth; even she can’t pretend this one away. However she’s still taken aback, not because he’s pointed it out, but because he thinks it’s not okay. Terry retorts “Yes Mr. Rock, but surely you agree that overly sensitive college students are a positive force in our world and represent a culture we should all strive for?” Or essentially “Don’t you think that’s a good thing?” Chris Rock making his living on people who don’t have 9 foot sticks in their butts says “No, no I don’t” and that’s about the time the men in white coats come in and take him to the re-education center. Just expecting every celebrity, scientist, teacher, politician, or public figure to agree with everything you say. Only inviting people who you think are on ‘your team’. Being shocked and borderline offended when they aren’t. Being so-so-so transparently stuck to one side of the political fence… The show no longer becomes checking up on. Terry Gross you are the Sean Hannity (that’s a bad thing for those of you who think this is some pro-red love letter) of the left. But with far-far fewer listeners.
