Little prayer is the characteristic of a backslidden age and of a backslidden church. Whenever there is little praying in the pulpit or in the pew, spiritual bankruptsy is imminent and inevitable. The cause of GOD has no commercial age, no cultured age, no age of education, no age on money. But HE has one golden age, & that is the age of prayer. When its leaders are men of prayer, when prayer is the prevailing element of worship, like the incense giving continual fragrance to its service, then that cause of GOD will be triumphant. Natural ability & educational advantages do not figure as factors in this matter; but a capacity for faith, the ability to pray, the power of a thorough consecration, the ability of self-littleness, an absolute losing of ones self in GODs glory and an ever-present and insatiable yearning & seeking after all the fullness of GOD. Men who can set the Church ablaze for GOD, not in a noisy, showy way, but with an intense and quiet heat that melts and moves everything for GOD. Be not afraid to pray; to pray is right; Pray if thou canst with hope, but ever pray, Though hope be weak or sick with long delay; Pray in the darkness if there be no light; & if for any wish thou dare not pray Then pray to GOD to cast that wish away. Paul, Luther, Wesley---what would these chosen ones of GOD be without the distinguishing & controlling element of prayer? They were leaders for GOD because they were mighty in prayer. They were not leaders because of brilliancy in thought, because exhaustless in resources, because of their magnificent culture or native endowment, but leaders because by the power of prayer they could command the power of GOD. Praying men means much more than men who pray by habit. It means men with whom a mighty force, an energy that moves heaven & pulls untold treasures on earth. One night alone in prayer, says Spurgeon, might make us new men, changed from poverty of soul to spiritual wealth, from trembling to triumphing. Prayer honors GOD, acknowledges HIS being, exalts HIS power, adores HIS providence, secures HIS aid. ~ REV. E.M. BOUNDS lil prayer = lil power , More Prayer = More POWER , Much PRAYER = MUCH POWER Hallelujah !! Thank YOU LORD JESUS James 5:16 The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much ~
