Liverpool say Suarez clause is water-tight Posted by: arseblog36 mins agoin Pre-season, Transfers in 40 Comments Despite much speculation, and indeed fiction, regarding the clause in Luis Suarez’s contract, Liverpool havelet it be known this evening that there’s noobligation on their part to sell him despiteArsenal’s bid of £40,000,001. The general consensus is that Arsenal, havingsomehowcome to know of a clause in the Uruguayan’s contract, made a bid which they thought would trigger amove automatically. Liverpool clearly, and very obviously, thought different. Tonight, via various newspapers, an Anfield source said, “We’ve all examined the clause in detail. All it obliges is for us to enter good faith negotiations about Luis’s future. There is absolutely no obligation tosell and that is very clear.” So, all the theories suggesting it was because Arsenal weren’t yet a Champions League club because they’re playinga qualifier, or the stories about Suarez going to the Premier Leagueto seek arbitration are, essentially, nonsense. Suarez and hisagent thought one thing, got it completely wrong, and now, having cheesed off Liverpool something rotten, Arsenalwill have to go really, really big to sign him. £50m minimum, by the looks ofit, and at the end of the day, regardless of how good you think he is, that’s a massive chunk of our transferfunds. Based on the current market, that would have bought us Higuain and Paulinho, for example. It seems that Arsenal have misjudged this one, bidding onthe back of bum info, so now what do they do? Keep bidding totry make it looklike it was all part of the plan, or move on to someone else? And who exactly is that someone else at this stage? Whatever happens, this thing has turned ugly, and ugly is rarely sorted quickly.
