Liverpool the new favourites to sign former hero Xabi Alonso Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is looking keen to rebuild his squad this summer, and improve their position in the Premier League, salvaging some of their long lost pride. However, the imminent loss of Luis Suarez might be too much to take for the team, with the boss’ tactics bound to hit a roadblock. But Rodgers is not a man to be easily put off. The Northern Irishman might have lost out on potential target Alvaro Morata, but he may now turn his attention towards former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso. Alonso’s current deal with Los Blancos is set to expire next year, and with both parties failing to reach an agreement for a contract extension, a move for the Spaniard is very much on the cards. Although Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is keen to reunite with the 31 year old, Rodgers may consider asking for him in a swap deal for Suarez, which would help Real also in bringing down the cost of the deal. The Reds are also now the bookmakers’ favourites to land the Spaniard with Skybet offering odds as low as 2.38 on Alonso making an emotional return to Anfield. Chelsea are a distant second with SkyBet offering odds of 6.00 of a move to Stamford Bridge. Alonso back to Liverpool? Bookies at least think it is a real possibility. Shadab96
