Living and/or spending time here in Park City has all kinds of little surprises / blessings it seems like... Even after living here for nearly 15 years now, it seems like Venssa and I are still finding little pearls that continue to make this place extra special... And while the pearl I am about to share is not new to the area, nor to V & me, none the less it is something even a lot of locals here have yet to discover... And yet, in our opinion, it is one of the MOST special jewels in our area, especially if you have any interest in music... Last night V & I were the guests of some very dear friends/patients at the Bluebird Cafe series over at Sundance Resort... Every summer, Sundance collaborates with the Bluebird Cafe back in Nashville, and they bring some in of THE top songwriters in the country to perform their works/hits in an unplugged setting at the intimate, outdoor Eccles stage at Sundance. Typically 3 songwriters are brought in from Nashville for the evening, and they sit up on the stage under the stars, and for a couple of hours they share their hit songs and the stories behind them... Venssa and I have been attending the concerts in this series for 4-5 years now - and without a doubt they are one of the big highlights of our summer each year (our hosts last night were the ones who tipped us off to this concert series several years ago.) Now - our hosts last night are not your run-of-the-mill hosts... At one time, he was the CEO of MCA Records in Nashville - and he has spent his lifetime working in the recording industry. And to give you an idea of the positive impact he has made on the music industry, we have yet to attend a concert here in the PC area that they have been in attendance where the artist(s) havent stopped somewhere during their performance to acknowledge and thank him for his help/support during their career. We have also been guests at their home for dinner - and the photos and memorabilia in their home are truly unbelievable... Their knowledge and acquaintances and stories about the music industry have thoroughly captivated both V & me for hours on more than one evening while together - and both he and his wife are truly a wonderful, loving class act... Anyway, last night we were their guests to hear/enjoy Amy Grant, Marshall Altman, and Dylan Altman perform. 2nd row, dead center. And for nearly 3 hours, we were thoroughly mesmerized with their songs and unbelievable talent as songwriters and performers. While I am certain Amys name is recognizable to a lot of people, neither Marshall or Dylan (not related, BTW) registered on our radar - that is, until we heard them perform some of the hits they have written for the likes of Eric Paslay, Ingrid Michaelson, Matt Nathanson, Tim McGraw, Jake Owens, Jason Aldean, Trace Adkins, Amy Grant, and many many others... And not only were we entertained with hits - but we also heard several new works last night that are certainly destined to be at the top of the charts soon... Amy debuted a couple of new songs that were unbelievably beautiful & moving... Due to its growing popularity, the Bluebird Cafe series at Sundance has grown to 4 Fridays in the summer now... The first two were in July (last night was #2) - and the next two will be in late August. Whether you are a local - and/or are looking at coming to visit PC in the summer - you definitely DONT want to miss out on this extra-special summertime treat! Here is the link to the web page for the Bluebird Concert Series - sundanceresort/create/hap_music_bluebird.html Our many, many thanks to our good friends (you know who you are :) ) - and to Sundance - for once again creating a most magical summer memory for both V & me! #bluebirdatsundance
