Living in a deeply oppressive world. We all live in a world - TopicsExpress

Living in a deeply oppressive world. We all live in a world where the institutions, society, socialization are all aligned with white male supremist values. This living is difficult and many of us suffer from depression, anxiety, and other diseases that are a completely understandable response to being wounded and living in this world. Fest is one of the few places where much of the weight of oppression lifts for a time - during that time I am able to relax and restore my sense of self. Coming home to hear of suicides and homicides was traumatizing. I want you to know that anyone who lives with depression is a bad ass survivalist, a champion of the heart. Suicide is not so much a tragedy, really. It is an all too common death after a mighty and sheroic life lived with a chronic illness. No one says it is tragic when womyn die of cancer - we see our sisters who die of cancer as mighty fighters full of courage and hope. So too are those who live with depression - our sisters who live with depression and suicidal thoughts are fighters with courage that is unimaginable. Occasionally though, hope is lost and with it a sister or brother. We must sometimes be hope for each other. Hope for the next moment, the next breath. Hope for the next day. Hope for another day on the land. Hope for a cat, a dog. Hope for a float on a river. Hope to sing with sisters. Be hope, extend hope, active hope. We are all more powerful than we know. Loving you all. Please sisters be gentle with yourselves, find people and practices that nourish and sustain you because I need you all to survive.
