Living in a free country requires a willingness to defend the speech of those you may not fully agree with. Ive had differences with the pastors that Houstons Mayor Annise Parker is targeting, but that doesnt mean I believe the government has a right to muzzle them. While our country becomes more polarized as government grows ever-larger, remember that the only way we can coexist peacefully is to limit the power politicians and their various interest groups have to micromanage our lives. Conservative Christians and liberal LGBT advocates can live among each other in peace if both groups recognize that mob rule is a danger to us all. One may think a government with so much power that it could easily become tyrannical is ideal when in charge - but just wait until the tables are turned. History has demonstrated that the only way for a truly pluralistic society to exist is for it to flourish under conditions of maximum liberty and limited political coercion. We are diverse people, and our laws ought to reflect that while protecting our God given rights. You do not have the right to silence me, nor do I have the right to silence you. Perhaps we could give freedom a try rather than bickering over who will oppress who next?
