Living in haste is exhausting! You never get to smell the roses - TopicsExpress

Living in haste is exhausting! You never get to smell the roses and you always take for granted what is going on so beautifully in the moment before you, and you have the horrible gift of being able to look back and see it, what you so casually took for granted. I have come to the decision that slow is better for me than haste and I want to live and move and have my being in the crock pot of Jesus, simmering, smelling delicious and marinating for hours in the luscious juices of his word, the rich sauce of his character. I hate McDonalds and ALL fast food so why do I think I need that kind of food spiritually? What kind of hunger is satisfied on the haste of fast food spirituality? It’s equally ludicrous to think that the goodness of God and knowledge of him should be anything less than a slow cooked rich meal to be savored, tasted and enjoyed. Jesus disappeared often and prayed for long periods of time. What would Jesus’ schedule look like today? Every pastor should live this schedule : Early morning disappear often and pray, every afternoon disappear often and pray. Seriously, would Franklin Covey freak out or what? I laugh out loud. Imagine slowing down like that! To simmer, soak him up, licking your fingers on the tastiness of his word not missing a single sweet drop. I like that a pastor would so deeply immerse himself in what really matters to Christ rather than succumbing to the monotonous assaults of pressures to appease a generation of people who believe that leading pastorally rests on the shoulders of a never ending seige of theological and doctrinal brainstorming gatherings, more focus groups, more break- out sessions and white board meetings. I know these things are important in moving a vision forward but if the purpose of leadership lacks the heart of Jesus’ for relation then what’s the point? Go pray, disappear for hours, get it straightened out with God then go back to the insanity of living out your pastoral call in our churches today. Oh Lord there I go again...........
