Living in the desert with no city water, I know what it means to - TopicsExpress

Living in the desert with no city water, I know what it means to conserve water. The average person uses 6000 gallons of water in two months. I use less than 2500 so I guess you can say I do a pretty good job not wasting water. Here are just a few things each Californian can do to reduce the amount of water used each month. 1. Take 10 minute showers. That includes you ladies. Trust me, you can even shave in that amount of time. Set a timer to keep yourself on track. 2. Dont flush the toilet every time you urinate. Its harder to do in the summer months, but it just means you need to scrub the toilet more often. 3. Shut the water off! Do not let it run when you do the dishes or brush your teeth or wash the car. It takes some getting used to but I am so used to it now that if I see anybody else doing it, I cringe. 4. Stop washing your car so often. You can keep the wheels and windows clean without using much water and the rest of your car can handle getting washed once a month or less. Remembered a few more things: 5. Dont wash your clothes after wearing them only once if they arent dirty or smelly. And dont do a load of clothes in the washing machine if you are only washing your gym clothes. Get a few extra sets and wash them all together at the end of the week. 6. Dont run the dishwasher unless its full. Better yet, start doing the dishes by hand and remember to turn the water off when you rinse a dish and are putting it in the drying rack. And you dont need to fill the sinks all the way. Halfway works just as well. And thats pretty much it. Just think of how we can help the drought situation in California if everybody cut their water usage in half.
