Living with Wolves shared a link. October 5 For 80 years or so, gray wolves were almost absent from the American landscape. Their reintroduction in 1995 and 1996 brought surprising positive changes to the landscape. This has been observed and studied in Yellowstone National Park. Does the fact that wolves improved the Yellowstone ecosystem mean that they will do so everywhere they appear? Biologist Aaron Wirsing thinks hes found a way to answer this question. He has outfitted a number of deer with cameras to record changes in their behavior - giving them a window into exactly what a deer is doing at every moment. His findings so far are confirming that wolves, and other top predators, positively impact their ecosystems. Listen to University of Washington biologist Aaron Wirsing explain why wolves and other top predators are needed for diverse ecosystems to flourish. science.kqed.org/quest/video/wolves-and-the-ecology-of-fear/
