Local Anzac Centenary community grants The spirit of the Anzacs will be commemorated with State Government funding for a project in the Redlands as part of the Anzac local community grants program. The Member for Redlands, Peter Dowling said the grants program enabled local communities to commemorate what the First World war meant to their community. “The First World War had a dramatic international impact, but the effects were felt in local communities like Redlands,” Mr Dowling said. “This program acknowledges the sacrifice made and loss suffered by the many communities whose residents contributed to the war effort either on the battlefield or on the home front.” Mr Dowling said Coochiemudlo Island will receive funding for $20,582 to enhance the Doug and Mary Morton Reserve integrating the Lone Pine and Lookout. “I urge everyone to support these Anzac commemorations as a way of acknowledging our community’s special place in Queensland’s military history,” he said. Minister Assisting the Premier on the commemoration of the Anzac Centenary Glen Elmes said the Redlands projects were among 86 statewide worth $1.8 million announced for the second round of the program. “The breadth of applications for this and the first round of local community grants shows that communities throughout Queensland have embraced the commemoration of the Anzac Centenary,” Mr Elmes said. “It’s very pleasing to see regional communities come together to tell personal stories that engage and educate future generations on the efforts and sacrifice of service men and women in a significant period of our nation’s history.” For more information about the grants program and how Queensland is commemorating the First World War centenary visit: qld.gov.au/anzac100.
