Local Government Autonomy: Chock-hold on Democracy. The - TopicsExpress

Local Government Autonomy: Chock-hold on Democracy. The proposed amendment of the 1999 Constitution for Local Government autonomy could not see the light of the day as the State Houses of Assembly in 23 States killed it. My research revealed that the State Houses of Assembly in the South South and North East voted massively against Local Government Autonomy. The electorate ably represented at the just concluded National Conference spoke in favour of autonomy. One begin to wonder who our legislators represent. The National Assembly did the needful by adopting the amendments for autonomy. Local Government remains the closest to the people. We have in recent times see how Comr. Emmanuel Egbabor and Sir. Itiako Constantine Ikpokpo have demystify the mysteries, myths and monstrosities of government at the local level. The Isoko people have again noticed a fresh restart in government. This is what we stand to gain if the LGA are free from the chock hold of the State Government. We have heard of people been punished because they didnt vote for a Governor or an Assembly member. Projects are sited on the basis of your contribution to the election cooking pot. Autonomy will not only remove this but also ensure even development. It is therefore my thinking and that of every reasonable and right thinking person that any legislator who voted against autonomy of the Local Government is an enemy of the people and democracy and as such does not deserve a return mandate. They have behaved like the policemen in the recent killing of a black man in the USA when they chock held him till he died. To vote against autonomy is a chock hold on democracy and the will of the people. The people must rise up and reserve the chock holding. We must chock hold their ambition until the last oxygen drops off it. We must vote them out because they are evil and wicked in intent. Hon. Erijo Johnson, Hon. Tim Kome Owhefere and Hon. Essien Benjamin must tell Isoko where their vote went when the Amendment came before the hallow Chambers of the Delta State House of Assembly. We cannot afford this cruelty as a people. For ages now Isi Primary school has remained down because and all in the name of Constituency Project when a free and autonomous Local Government can fix it. I must thank the Rt. Hon. Leo Ogor and Sen. James Manager for standing by the people. Complements of the season.
