Local News Briefs 7-24-13 (Hermon) – Firefighters kept flames from spreading into a building at the Garelick Farm depot in Hermon last night. Channel 5 News reports the blaze badly damaged a tractor trailer truck parked at the milk facility late last evening. (Roque Bluffs) – Rescue workers in Washington County rushed to a boat launch area in Roque Bluffs last night for a report of a vehicle in the water with people inside. (Blue Hill) – A 28-year old Pennsylvania woman is charged with theft after trying to rip off a gas station in Blue Hill. Deputies charged Ann Talkpa of Philadelphia after a gas station employee observed her on video tape trying to access the facility’s cash register. (Ellsworth) – An Ellsworth man went to jail after he allegedly got violent with staff at the hospital. Ellsworth Police Department Lt. Harold Page tells WNSX 55 year old Wayne Willigar of Ellsworth called emergency personnel asking for aid. The ambulance crew called for police backup because Willigar has a history. (Ellsworth) – The $100-dollars in cash on the front seat of a car parked at Branch Lake was just too tempting for a 28-year old Brewer man to ignore. It was bait money, and police nabbed Kevin Morse when he swiped the money. DI Man charged after vehicle hit garage in Stonington (Stonington) – A Deer Isle man whos vehicle ran into a welding shop this week faces charges. Polie say 56-year old Dean Morey claimed the pickup truck had operational problems that caused it to go out of control. (Blue Hill) – Deputies are still trying to sort things out in Blue Hill after one stolen vehicle crashed and another was reported missing at about the same time. The crashed vehicle was a pickup truck stolen from a residence on Route 172 in Surry. (Dedham) – Voters in Dedham will decide next Thursday whether to buy a new fire truck. A special town meeting warrant asks voters whether the town should pay $420-thousand dollars for the pumper truck. (Corinth) – State police continue to investigate how a 14-year old Corinth boy ended up unconscious on Route 15 in his home town last Friday. Christopher Killian was last reported in and out of consciousness at Eastern Maine Medical Center. (Bangor) Another hotel’s coming to the queen city of the East. The Bangor Daily News reports Maine Course Hospitality Group plans to build a 4 story, 60 thousand square foot hotel called TownePlace Suites next to their Courtyard Marriott adjacent to I-95. (Bangor) The Bangor Waterfront Concert Series is under heat by some area residents who dislike the amount of noise shows are creating. Folks turned out to voice their opinion in Bangor. One resident said it resulted in an “erosion of the quality of life in Bangor.” (Searsport) Residents of RSU 20 voted to decrease total spending for education by over 360 thousand dollars. The Bangor Daily News reports the cuts will come from funds for art teachers, middle school sports, and extracurricular activities. Blue Hill Roundabout update ver 2 (Blue Hill) It’s still up in the air about what will go in the center of the new roundabout in Blue Hill but it looks like construction will conclude in August. Maine Department of Transportation Spokesman Ted Talbot tells WNSX whatever ends up in the center must not conflict with visibility. (Stonington) A badly corroded sewer line in Stonington needs replacement. The Ellsworth American reports the line is located at the Hagan Dock and extends from a statue near the sea wall to the Stonington Fire Station. Eastbrook Fire (Eastbrook) The cause of a fire that destroyed a barn and home in Eastbrook will remain undetermined. The fire marshals office says there was too much damage to pinpoint the cause.
