Local bands thinking their entitled to being paid for their gigs - TopicsExpress

Local bands thinking their entitled to being paid for their gigs because they put time and effort into learning an instrument and writing music really irritates me. The fact that you have a hobby that you enjoy and put a lot of time and effort into doesnt entitle you to money for playing a gig. Why would a venue pay you money if you cant bring a decent crowd and generate a profit for them? Sure if you start to get recognised and can guarantee a crowd to show up, then absolutely, you should be paid for generating a turn out and thus helping the venue. But expecting cash because you turned up, played 4-6 songs you wrote that no one knows and leaving, doesnt entitle you to any sort of money. A amateur rugby player doesnt expect to be paid for turning up to games on a Saturday. Even if they also put a lot of time and effort into their hobby and nether should you until you start to gain a following enough to garner a cash income. If you want money for being a musician straight away; try being a bar pianist or teaching music lessons, dont look to gigs in your local scene to be your primary income. *Local music rant over*
