Local officers want to make residents aware of an incident, which happened on Tuesday, in which a young woman knocked on a residents door in Alma Street, Newport and attempted to gain entry saying she was collecting money. The young woman is described as aged 16, white, slim, about five feet tall with dark hair and wearing a cream duffel coat with a purple strip on the sleeve, jeans and black boots She was not carrying anything to collect money for any purpose but asked for money and asked to come into the house to use the phone. If anyone has experienced a similar incident they are asked to call 101 quoting log number 214 9/12/14. Residents are reminded never to let anyone into their home unless for a legitimate reason and never to hand money over without checking its for a legitimate cause.
