Local police and health officials are urging residents to bring their pets inside and keep an extra-close eye on children playing outside after two residents were bitten by one or more rabid foxes over the last several days. According to Newbury police, they have received multiple sightings of raccoons and foxes that might be infected with the deadly virus. At the moment, police are primarily concerned with the area near Marsh Avenue and Newbury Neck Road; but according to Board of Health Director Deb Rogers, infected animals can travel for miles. ”We don’t want to cause panic, we want to cause awareness,” Rogers said.
