Lok Sabha polls 2014: For EC, money spent on every Samosa counts Mail Today Bureau New Delhi, Saturday, March 15, 2014 HOME For computing candidates poll expenditure the Election Commission (EC) would keep a watch, among things, on how many samosas, kachoris and cups of tea/coffee a candidate has offered to his/her workers and supporters, and how many garlands of various sizes were put around the netajis neck during electioneering. In accordance with ECs directive the states chief electoral officer has asked various district election officers to prepare a rate list of various items used by the candidates. Accordingly, Jaipur collector Krishna Kunal has got prepared a rate list of such items - from tea, coffee, samosa, kachori, jalebi to garlands of different sizes to tents with and without carpets and plastic chairs. The items have been put under various categories along with their fixed rates. This was for keeping uniformity in poll expense accounts of various candidates, said Kunal. For using various categories of helicopters, costing Rs 80,000 to Rs 2.5 lakh per hour plus service tax, would be put in the expense accounts of candidates. Separate expenditure would be put for constructing helipads during electioneering. From food items like kachoris and samosas to helipads and aircraft, the EC is keeping a close watch on every penny spent by poll candidates. A look at the rates fixed under different categories:
