Loneliness among autistics... THERE WAS LITTLE THAT COULD BE DONE - TopicsExpress

Loneliness among autistics... THERE WAS LITTLE THAT COULD BE DONE BEFORE 1990... so lets speed up it potentially ending for as many as possible: 1. Make FB friends more - beginning with mentioning need another FB friend in chats, comments, posts... more often. 2. Seek out locals - you will not be scolded here for asking Anyone near Spokane here? once a month, for example, or for mentioning your local group/meetup. (Specifying gender/age might send the wrong message - keep that for dating sites/pages). 3. Think about priorities for expenditure... travelling costs and increases possibilities... you may need to $-t-r-e-t-c-h out for a meetup (and please also search meetup first!). Try to avoid groups facilitated by kindly NTs, parents, professionals... despite the very very best intentions, they tend to be the giant leap backwards we really do not need - its all about coming-of-age, not returning to playschool. 4. Join your local autistic-led association and an international/national one (see below). 5. Start exchanging Skype numbers if youre up for a bit of face-to-face. When we were posting selfies... guess what... they were ALL the most Liked posts we have pretty much had. Theres the warmth - work with it. 6. Start a Facebook Group called Aspergers - [Province/Region/City] just to accumulate names for those using search on FB or for those you come across in your FB travels. It doesnt need to be active, and if you (yourself) cannot establish a group, you may attract a person who CAN. 7. Write down further ideas in the comments below. Name autistic-led groups you know and adore. Relate experiences. Thank you. *SOME* GROUPS: ASAN autisticadvocacy.org/ AWN autismwomensnetwork.org/ UK autisticrightsmovementuk.org/ ANCA: naturallyautistic/ AUSTRALIA: https://facebook/pages/Autistic-Self-Advocacy-Network-of-Australia-New-Zealand/183091335126820 NEW ZEALAND: https://facebook/groups/ASNZGROUP/ AU: https://facebook/AutisticUnion NEW ENGLAND: aane.org/ SCOTLAND: arghighland.co.uk/ AUTSCAPE: autscape.org/ AUTREAT: autreat/autreat.html CANADA: taaproject/ ISRAEL: acisrael.org/ IRELAND: https://causes/ICAAN The Association for Autistic Community: autisticcommunity.org/ Below is a short vid of Ron Wright that I hope will provoke many to take that little extra step today in the direction of linking.
